The GIL Centre: Community Interest Company
The GIL (Gradual Inspired Learning) Centre was founded in 2003, in response to a demand from the local community.
The focus of our supplementary education is to strengthen and repair the roots of our community, particularly that of our children, young people and their family. We purposefully nurture confidence, raise aspiration, empowering children and young people to strive to be what they want to be. This involves engaging with each person as special and unique individuals.
GIL Centre works in partnership with parents, schools and various organisations to bring out the best of all who access our services. We have a unique approach to supplementary schooling. Our services complement and support the national curriculum, underpin key aspects of family and community life, plus support the personal development of students.
With the passage of time we have amended our focus depending on our ever-changing environment and needs of community and capacity of our Team. One significant change that we have made, based on our supporters’ suggestion is to celebrate our successes. Having an annual event as near to our anniversary as possible does this.
Each anniversary has a theme and a donation is made to an individual or an organisation, which is significant in relation to the theme. Examples of some of our themes:
A Legacy of Mothers Past and Present- a donation was made to Kings’ College Hospital Elderly people’s unit ( many of the mothers in the community have used the services provided by the unit),
A Conversation with My Father – a donation was made to a medical student in Kenya, who crossed our path when some of the GIL Team did voluntary work at the St. Benedict’s Children’s Centre (our donation was symbolic of a father supporting a child) and
Celebrating Young People – Farlie House Nursing Home, received a donation to support improving the well-being of young people in their care
This year’s theme is: The Family, Love & Respect and we will be having our 16th Anniversary Fundraising Dinner & Dance event on Saturday 07/09/19 at the De Vere Selsdon Estate, in Croydon. The event is from 18:00 – 00:00 & costs £60 per person.
The events consist of an introduction to GIL Centre, a sit down three-course meal, speakers, entertainment, mini auction, raffles networking and dancing. This equals an evening full of fun and so much more!
As a Team we are always looking for continuous improvement, new additions to our family and longevity to serve our community.
We look forward to you joining us, hearing more about our work and future plans.
