This unique and fun filled event is a “Big Peoples’” interactive Caribbean Dance workshop delivered by leading artist Dr ‘H’ Patten. H is the Artistic Director of Koromanti Arts and ‘H’ Patten Dance Theatre Co. An experienced dancer, choreographer, filmmaker, visual artist, storyteller, author and performer. ‘H’ is the recipient of several awards for his services in the field of Arts, Culture and Entertainment. ‘H’ is also a Lecturer in African People’s Dance at the University of Canterbury Christchurch where he is completing his PhD research on the Gaeneolgy of Jamaican Dancehall.
The Caribbean Dance workshop will cover music and dances from around the Caribbean spanning the last 70 years of the Windrush generation in the UK. Featuring dances such as Bele, Juba, Mento, Bolero and Soca.
This will be a fun and energetic trip down memory lane so put on your dancing shoes! We’ll start with an English Afternoon Tea listening to hits that recapture the popular tunes of a bygone era. ‘H’ will deliver his workshop, giving you the opportunity to move and groove.
This is will be a fun & interactive workshop. Then we push back the tables and make room for the hotsteppers as we dance into the evening! Refreshments will be on sale during the evening.
